Membership

Joining a surf lifesaving club is a great way to meet new people, keep fit and learn extra skills. Surf Life Saving Australia offers membership to both males and females from the age of 7 upwards.

Members aged 7 to 13 are known as Junior Activity members or 'nippers'. Cadets are from 14 – 18 with 18 and upwards being senior members. While learning surf survival skills the emphasis is always on fun and participation. Programmes of activity include surf safety, board paddling, basic resuscitation and first aid, and surf sports with many levels of competition up to national level.

The other membership category is that of a general member.

Surf lifesavers aged between 13 and 15 are taught basic lifesaving skills. Whilst not expected to be involved in life threatening rescues, they may assist on a beach patrol and are able to compete in senior carnivals in the Under 16 division.

At 15, a surf lifesaver may begin training for the Surf Life Saving Bronze Medallion. This award enables surf lifesavers to actively participate in patrols and compete in senior carnivals. The club holds Bronze Medallion training squads at the commencement of the new season so check the front page for updates.

General membership is also available for those who join socially as friends, parents, or sponsors of a Club.
